Debunking the myth that synthetic = toxic.

At Apolethecary, we’re all about transparency, intention, and empowerment—whether you’re in the studio, on the stage, or soaking in a post-pole bath. So let’s talk about something that gets a bad rap in the body care world: the word synthetic.
In a space dominated by buzzwords like natural, organic, and clean, synthetic often gets unfairly tossed into the “toxic” bin. But here's the truth: synthetic doesn’t mean harmful—and natural doesn’t always mean safe.

Let’s Break It Down
A synthetic ingredient is simply one that’s been created or modified in a lab. That’s it. It could be mimicking something found in nature (like lab-made vitamin C), or it could be a unique compound designed for safety, stability, or performance. For instance, think of combining natural ingredients like milk, flour, sugar, water, butter together make a cake. Technically, that cake is synthetic because it's made-man, even though it was made using only natural ingredients. So what we're saying is synthetic doesn't mean bad, it just informs you of how it came to be.
Many synthetics are used in body care because they’re:
✔️ More stable and less likely to spoil (which keeps you safer)
✔️ Less irritating or allergenic than their natural counterparts
✔️ More sustainable to produce at scale, reducing strain on the environment
Meanwhile, natural ingredients—while beautiful and powerful—can be harsh, allergenic, unstable, or even toxic in certain forms. Poison ivy is natural. So is lead. Just sayin’.
It’s About What Works and What’s Safe
At Apolethecary, we carefully choose each ingredient—synthetic or natural—based on what it does for your body, your skin, and your experience. We look at efficacy, safety, and sustainability. If a lab-made ingredient is gentler on your skin and keeps your balm fresh longer without irritating preservatives? We're in.
It’s not about fear-based marketing. It’s about facts and feeling good—on and off the pole.
Our Promise to You
We’ll always be up-front about what goes into our formulas. We read the labels so you don’t have to, and we stand by the science that supports your self-care. Whether an ingredient was harvested from a field or crafted in a clean lab, we care most about how it serves your body and your well-being.

We've even created an Ingredient Safety Chart that lists all of our ingrdients, with the scientific names, hazardous rating, allergen risk, and safety rating - all back by their MSDS regulated safety sheets and research.
You'll also find that thoroughout the entire Apolethecary line, we only use 3 synthetic ingredients, which are hospital and food grade quality aka as safe as they can get. Two of these are used as our surfactants because what in nature gives us those lucious sudsy bubbles besides seafoam ... and we ain't washin' ya with that!
Bottom Line
Natural isn’t automatically good. Synthetic isn’t automatically bad.
What matters is that you’re informed, empowered, and putting products on your skin that support your strength, sensuality, and self-love.
